Match Report
Wells Cathedral School Boys-U8A vs  Queen's College, Taunton
On: Monday, 16 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

The U8 squad have made a fantastic start to their Rugby season with some dynamic performances at the Warminster Festival last weekend followed on Monday by an equally promising game over at Queen's College.

The team consisting of Freddie Petheram, Oliver Beats, Harley Fairey, Isaac Marshall, Ollie Clare and Rufus Smith have come on in 'leaps and bounds' in an incredibly short space of time. A fantastic tough first game against Millfield at the Warminster Festival demonstrated the raw talent of the team in terms of straight running and team awareness when supporting the ball carrier. These two attributes served them well throughout the 6-game festival. Their appreciation of the 'iron curtain' defence and 'arrowhead formation' attack also improved and all players reached the end of the festival tired but satisfied. Parental support was awesome as ever and this played a great part in giving the boys the confidence they needed.

The long trip over to Queen's College Taunton saw the lads playing in drizzly conditions, but there were surprisingly few drops of the ball. Freddie Petheram and Harley Fairey really demonstrated the art of running straight whilst carrying the ball and equally impressive support running by Ollie Clare and Rufus Smith gave us a real advantage in terms of momentum. Isaac Marshall and Oliver Beats completely dazzled us all with relentless tackling which gave us the edge over Queen's from start to finish. An impressive two days of Rugby from all our younger players. Well done everyone - keep it up!
